In fact, Akshay’s character Tapan Das is an inspiration from Kishan Lal. The story based on the early life of Indian Hockey Capitan Kishan.
Furthermore, he was born on 2nd of February 1917, in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh, India. In the early 1920s, the school-going boy dreams to be the king of England. He had invited for a dinner in a king’s palace in 1948.
He liked to play polo in his childhood. Meanwhile, his widow lives in Mhow with four sons and a daughter. Devki Lal was his elder son died in 2009 who was a hockey coach.

Lal had joined the Western Railways team (earlier known as BB & CI Railways). In fact, the team won the gold medal in hockey at London Olympics of 1948. During that time, Kishan led the team members as a Capitan. Soon, the players came to India.

In his glorious career, he played for various clubs and for the national team. He had received Padam Shri by Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan (Indian President) in 1966. However, he died in Chennai on June 22, 1980.
After retiring from the team, he has worked as a coach for East Germany and Malaysia. He had groomed players like Harbinder Singh, Balbir Singh, and Prithpal Singh. In fact, Kishan went to attend Murruguppa Gold Cup Hockey Tournament.
