Peter Humphrey (born in 1951) is a British Former Journalist and Former Fraud Investigator from Surrey. In December 2019, he garnered huge media attention after a prisoner asked him for his help.
According to a source, a girl from Tooting in south London found a note inside a Christmas card. She was writing her sixth or eighth card when she discovered a message where the worker asked for help.

The person even claimed that they were working for the Tesco against their will in Shanghai Qingpu jail. In addition, the young girl later became sad and shocked after reading the message.
The girl’s father “Ben Widdicombe” who is an English author initially thought it was some sort of joke. Humphrey used to run ChinaWhys and previously led China investigations for the accounting firm PwC and the US risk consultancy Kroll. He along with his wife remained certified fraud investigators.
Controversy – Shanghai Qingpu Prison
A girl named Florence Widdicombe who is 6-years-old found a note from a Christmas card which created a huge controversy. The incident took place in December 2019 when she was writing cards to her school friends when she discovered a card.
Later, Florence saw the note where it claimed that they were foreign prisoners in Shanghai Qingpu prison China. The note allegedly states that the workers of the factory forcefully work against their will.

It was written by one of the prisoners from the Shanghai Qingpu prison. Furthermore, the message also asked for help and also told the person who found the note to notify the human rights organization.
In fact, the foreign prisoner also asked whoever got the note to contact Peter Humphrey. He himself detained there four years ago. As per the source, Tesco who is a company behind the card later suspended the production of charity Christmas cards at a factory in China.
On the other hand, Tesco claimed that they would never allow jail labor in their supply chain. Moreover, the supermarket also de-list the supplier i.e. Zheijiang Yunguang Printing of the cards.
