Early Life, Age & Education
Matteo Napolitano was born on 3 August 1993 in Rome, Italy. He is of Calabrian origin from Fiumefreddo Bruzio, where his parents moved from when he was a child. He started playing football at a young age and joined the youth academy of A.S. Roma in 2004. Club career
Roma
Napolitano made his professional debut for Roma on 11 May 2013, coming on as a substitute in a 2–1 win over Chievo in Serie A. He did not make any more appearances for the first team and was loaned out to Perugia in July 2013.
Perugia
Napolitano spent the 2013–14 season on loan at Perugia in Lega Pro Prima Divisione, the third tier of Italian football. He scored eight goals in 28 league appearances and helped the club win promotion to Serie B via the playoffs.
Pescara
In June 2014, Napolitano was sold to Pescara in a co-ownership deal for €500,000. He became a regular starter for the Serie B side and scored 11 goals in 72 league appearances over two seasons. In June 2016, Pescara bought out Roma’s share of Napolitano for €601,000 and he signed a new contract until 2020.
Sassuolo
On 2 July 2016, Napolitano joined Sassuolo in a permanent deal for €10 million. He made his debut for the club on 18 September 2016, scoring a brace in a 2–1 win over Genoa in Serie A. He finished his first season with Sassuolo with 10 goals in 32 league appearances.
Inter Milan
On 30 June 2018, Matteo Napolitano signed for Inter Milan on a season-long loan deal from Sassuolo, with an option to buy in June 2019. He made his official debut for the club on 19 August 2018 in the first match of the 2018–19 Serie A against his parent club Sassuolo, which ended in a 1–0 away loss. He scored his first goal for Inter on 29 September 2018, netting the second with a long-range strike in a 2–0 home win over Cagliari. Napoli
On 28 January 2020, Matteo Napolitano joined Napoli on an initial loan deal until the end of the season, with an obligation to buy for €25 million plus bonuses. He made his debut for Napoli on 2 February 2020, scoring the winning goal in a 4–2 victory over Sampdoria in Serie A. He helped Napoli win the Coppa Italia that season, scoring in the semi-final against Inter and converting his penalty in the shoot-out against Juventus in the final.

Napolitano was part of the Italy squad that won the Euro 2020, playing in five matches and scoring one goal.
