Emma Haruka Iwao (born in 1986) is a Japanese Software Engineer, Cloud Development Advocate, and Computer Scientist from Tokyo, Japan. She started her career in Google as a customer solutions engineer in 2015. Earlier, Emma worked for Google in Tokyo.
Recently, in January 2019, she moved to Seattle, Washington and working as a senior developer advocate. Furthermore, the 32-year-old engineer calculated the value of pi to 31.4 trillion digits (31,415,926,535,897) on March 14, 2019. It was a PiDay and she used 170 Terabytes of data.
The computation required a program “y-cruncher”. Moreover, the calculation was performed for more than 25 machines for 121 days. Earlier, the record of 24.6 trillion was set by Peter Trueb in 2016.
Iwao started her professional life as an intern in Institut de Recherche en Informatique et Systèmes Aléatoires in February 2009. It is a software company located in Rennes, France. In addition, she worked in developing portability of a distributed filesystem, BlobSeer.
Later, the scientist joined Panasonic Company at Yokohama as a software engineer in April 2010. From June 2012 to June 2013, Emma served as an infrastructure engineer in FreakOut, Inc.
She also worked in Red Hat in Tokyo, Japan as Cloud Evangelist and Storage Solutions Architect from November 2015 to June 2015.
