Divya Dureja (born in 1992) is an LGBTQIA activist and mental health advocate from Delhi, India.
She came up into headlines after a French woman named Elodie Gendron (28) accused her of abducting, drugging, and sexually assaulting her in a hotel in North Goa on the pretext of performing a “shamanic ritual”, on February 23, 2021, Wednesday.
After the complaint of the French woman, who was a Yoga teacher by profession, Dureja was arrested by the Goa police. Although Divya was released on bail and admitted to a psychiatric facility in Delhi.
What Happened Really?
According to the reports, Divya and the Yoga Instructor were connected through Instagram and planned to meet up at Sea View Resort in Ashvem.
Later Dureja called her to the room for helping her doing hair. Although Divya reportedly locked her for 6 hours. She sedated and molested her.
Moreover, Divya forcefully performed shamanic rituals by claiming that they both were meant to be together as their past lives to be reunited. She added that this ritual was what they needed to be together forever.
In the undercover of all these Divya Dureja also inserted her hand in Elodie’s vagina, and claimed that she was planting a tree.
After Divya asked her to leave, the Yoga instructor drove to her friend’s house in Arambol, who then took her to the Pernem police station.
The FIR was registered under no.33/2021 in the police station of North Goa. Dureja was detained under the IPC (Indian Penal Code) Sections 354 (sexual assault) and 342 (wrongful confinement).
