Chantel Giacalone Allergic Reaction with Peanut Butter Pretzel
Back on February 20, 2013, this beautiful model was hired to work in a fashion show in Las Vegas. There, she ate frozen yogurt whose topping contained pretzels filled with peanut butter given by her friend.
After having a bite, Chantel Giacalone released that it had peanut butter and she spitted it out immediately. Unfortunately, it was too late, and she ended up in anaphylactic shock.
The ambulance service failed to give her proper treatment which resulted in permanent brain damage.
As per the source, paramedics tried to treat her with intramuscular epinephrine. However, they didn’t have its’ intravenous version. It is necessary to carry this medication for severe allergic reactions. She was also not given epinephrine via an IV.
Her lawyer “Christian Morris” told in court that because of this Giacalone’s didn’t receive oxygen for a few minutes. It left the model paralyzed.
Moreover, she is now suffering from quadriplegia and only talks through her eyes. Chantel also requires care 24/7.
The jury of Las Vegas ruled out on April 09, 2021, that she would have not endured this much damage if proper treatment was provided to the actress at that time.
They said the MedicWest Ambulance team who was responsible for her treatment was not equipped with IV epinephrine and they are at fault.
As per Southern Nevada Health District, it is compulsory to own this medication in case of a severe reaction. Her family was awarded almost $30 million after they won the lawsuit.
